File Folder Album Birthday Card

This week was my Mom’s birthday, I hate to brag but my Mom is really an amazing person. One of the things that I am trying to work on is letting the people in my life know how important they are to me. I thought a mini album would be a nice way to tell my Mom just how much she means to me.

I really enjoy making file folder albums, they are cheap, quick, and fun to make! I also like that you can make them very simple or really fancy and they are good either way!

One of the things that I think is really important in scrapbooking is to write at least some of your journaling in your own handwriting.  Everyone thinks that their handwriting is awful, but I think it is so much more meaningful to have something that was handwritten to you.  For this album I had one tag for myself, one for my husband and one for each of my kids.  I put a photo on the front and then each of us wrote a note on the back to my Mom.  My Mom loved her birthday card/album and I loved making it.

Then front and back of one of the tags:

There are lots of instructions out on the Internet but this is how I did mine.

Start with a file folder that has the tab on the top left corner or top right, open the folder flat so that the tab is in the upper right corner.

Fold the bottom up so that the bottom of the large tab on the left lines up with the top of the large tab.

it will look like this

now fold the left side up to the center fold

flip it over

use a bone folder to score along the folded edge (this way the spine will line up perfectly) and then fold along your scored line

And you end up with an accordion folded album with 4 pockets for tags.

Now embellish to your hearts content!  I was running short on time so I didn’t get to embellish quite as much as I wanted but I was still happy with how it turned out.
