My first blog – nothing original, nothing new, just my version.
My 52 reasons
I’ve seen several versions of the deck of cards “52 Reasons I Love You” projects and loved the idea. I really wanted to make one for my husband but quickly realized that coming with 52 reasons might be a challenge. When I told my 11 year old daughter what I wanted to do even she wondered if I could come up with 52 reasons! It certainly isn’t that I don’t love my husband, but after over 25 years of marriage coming up with 52 romantic sentiments took a little bit of thought! I shared the idea with a friend and she decided to make a deck for her husband of 2 years and in 30 minutes she had a great list, I was still working on number 26! It turned out to be a great exercise in appreciation of him and all the things in my life that I depend on him for. I also thought back on fun things from our dating years and early marriage, suddenly I found that I had lots of reasons and could easily fill a deck of cards, whew what a relief.
Once I had my list (I will share it in a moment) this was an easy project. I decided to go quick and simple and just print my ideas on address labels. I used Word to create a new document, then I selected a mailing label template download that matched the type of labels I had (Avery 8160). This created a table that I just edited for each of my 52 reasons. I also added clip art designs to each of the labels basically hearts and some pictures that matched the reasons (not so quick but worth it.) I printed my labels on a laser printer so I wouldn’t have to worry as much about smearing when I applied them.
Now here is where I went overboard! I decided to sand the cards to make them look more vintage – that was a huge dusty mess! The cards still didn’t have the look I wanted so I inked the edges with a pigment inkpad front and back and that achieved the look I wanted. Unfortunately my labels were bright white so I had to ink the edges of all the labels, so much for quick and simple! Sticking the labels on was easy so I guess it was still somewhat quick and simple. I decided to punch 2 holes in each card so the would flip like a book, I used the bottom hole of my 3 hole punch to punch a hole then flipped the card over and punched another hole so everything lined up perfectly. 2 binder rings and I was done and pretty happy with the result.
I will give him the cards on Valentines day but I already got the best reward for doing this project – when it was done I showed it to my 11 year old daughter she flipped through each card laughed at the funny ones and said “Awww” on the mushier ones, when she was done she looked at me and said in the sweetest voice “Wow Mom this is sooo good!” So no matter what my husband’s response is it was worth doing for so many reasons!
